Beyond Cameras, Alarms and Sensors

Security systems and cameras are valuable tools, but they can’t replace a scheduled, in-person home watch visit.

Through recurring interior and exterior visits, we look for visible signs of concern and provide clear photo-based documentation after each inspection. Our goal is to help identify potential issues early, so you can respond before a small problem becomes a larger one.

During a typical home watch visit, we check for obvious concerns such as:

  • Storm, wind or weather-related damage

  • Water leaks, moisture, mold, mildew or humidity concerns

  • Pest or insect activity

  • Landscaping, driveway, entryway or exterior maintenance concerns

  • Unusual sounds, odors or visible changes inside the home

  • Apparent equipment, appliance or system issues

  • Signs of vandalism, trespassing or unauthorized access

Daymark Home Watch does not replace alarm systems, emergency services, property management or licensed trade professionals. Instead, we provide a consistent, professional set of eyes on your Northern Michigan home and deliver the documentation you need to stay informed from wherever you are.

What We Review During a Home Watch Visit

Every property is different, so Daymark Home Watch visits are customized to the home, season and owner preferences. In general, each visit includes a systematic exterior and interior review, followed by photo-based documentation and a written report.

Our role is to provide professional, recurring verification of property conditions while you are away — so small concerns are more likely to be noticed before they become larger problems.

Exterior Review

During the exterior portion of a visit, Daymark visually reviews the property grounds, structure, access points, and home systems from ground level.

Typical exterior review items may include:

  • Walk the property exterior to observe visible damage, storm impact or security concerns

  • Review doors, entry points and accessible exterior openings for signs of tampering, damage or unusual conditions

  • Remove obvious signs of vacancy, such as mail, flyers, packages, notices or debris

  • Observe rooflines, gutters, downspouts and drainage areas

  • Verify exterior lighting appears functional where reasonably observable

  • Review exterior water sources, including spigots, hose bibs and faucets, for obvious leaks, damage or freeze concerns

  • Observe landscaping, trees, plants and irrigation-related areas for obvious changes, damage or service concerns

  • Look for visible pest activity, animal intrusion, nests or exterior damage

  • Confirm outdoor personal property appears secure, such as patio furniture, grills, stored equipment or other agreed-upon items

  • Observe exterior equipment for obvious issues when accessible

  • Review the apparent condition of vendor services, such as lawn care, snow removal, pool/spa service or other scheduled providers

  • Note upcoming weather concerns that may create risk for the property, such as freezing temperatures, heavy snow, wind or storms

Interior Review

Inside the home, Daymark conducts a room-by-room visual review of accessible areas and key systems. The focus is on identifying obvious signs of water intrusion, temperature or humidity concerns, pest activity, power issues, unusual odors or other changes.

Typical interior review items may include:

  • Verify doors and windows for obvious damage, leaks, condensation, faulty seals or signs of forced entry

  • Review ceilings, walls, floors and garage areas for obvious signs of water intrusion, staining, damage or unusual conditions

  • Check HVAC thermostat readings to confirm the home appears to be maintaining the requested temperature settings

  • Visually review HVAC equipment and furnace filters when accessible

  • Confirm intake and exhaust vents appear unobstructed where visible

  • Measure and document indoor humidity levels

  • Check major appliances for obvious issues

  • Run disposals and refresh drains/traps as appropriate to the home

  • Spot-check interior lights, timers and selected switches

  • Review plumbing fixtures, including faucets, showers, toilets and visible water connection points, for leaks, drainage issues or irregular water pressure

  • Flush toilets and replenish traps as part of routine water-system observation

  • Review electrical panels or subpanels for obvious issues when accessible and safe to observe

  • Identify signs of power interruptions, such as flashing clocks, reset devices or disrupted timers

  • Investigate unusual odors, alarms, sounds or visible alerts

  • Visually review accessible sump, septic or condensate pumps for obvious concerns

  • Check interior monitoring or alert devices when included in the property profile

  • Look for signs of interior pest activity, including droppings, damage, nesting or infestation indicators

  • Review garage areas and stored vehicles, including golf carts or seasonal equipment, if requested

  • Observe water heater status if the system is left active and accessible

  • Confirm Wi-Fi appears functional, when requested and reasonably verifiable

  • Verify security system status upon entry and exit, according to the homeowner’s instructions

Reports may include:

  • Time-stamped visit notes

  • Property photos

  • Condition observations

  • Items needing homeowner attention
